The SECS is a non-profit 501(c)3 tax exempt organization that wasformed in 1999 in Savannah Georgia.Our organization was created to provide education and research into the genus Camellia and it's related species. As a gardening oriented organization, our goals are to promote the growing and use of the camellia in gardens everywhere and to provide gardeners and growers alike with the tools the need to be successful in gardening.

 

H. Harold Hume, reknowned author & camellia enthusiast, had the right idea in the 1940's. He realized the importance of a connection, a web of sorts, of Nurserymen, gardeners, landscape architects, clubs, societies and florists all working together and sharing information for a common goal - to promote the "making of better gardens" by the use of camellias. We are fortunate to live in the digital age and creating Hume's "Dream-Team" is a much easier task today that it was in 1947.

The largest reason why camellias are not as popular today as they once were, is the lack of communication. Our objective is to be the "information bridge". Through a network we are creating, we can share, learn and grow camellias better than ever before! By creating partnerships with growers, clubs, nurseries, landscapers and other organizations, as well as the ordinary home gardener, we can all work together to bring camellias back to the forefront of our gardens. There is so much information to be shared, and through our camellia network, we can certainly make that a reality.

We call that network -CamelliaWeb. Camelliaweb is a web portal that can take you into the world of camellias while sitting at your home computer. Camelliaweband the many exciting features you will find here, will provide information on growing, care and culture, identification and so much more relating to the genus Camellia.

 

Whether you're a grower, a home gardener, a landscaper or designer, a camellia-"Shower", or if just plain love the flower, CamelliaWeb and The Southeastern Camellia Society have something just for you

Digital Publications are available for purchase as well as through membership. The Camellia Digest, our signature publication, is produced annually in November or December of each year and is sent to current paid members of The Southeastern Camellia Society. As always, it is available for purchase outside of membership.

Our funding comes from membership, sponsorship and donations. Your support helps keep our efforts in promoting camellias an ongoing project.

If you belong to another camellia organization, we don't want you to feel you have to choose. What we do and what we offer is so different from other camellia related organizations. We understand the importance of local and national organizations and how they can benefit Camellias. We FULLY support all organizations that promote camellias. What these organizations provide to their members is invaluable. From Camellia Shows, Nomenclature, to flower registration - there is something for everyone. What we want is to tie all of them together and build a great big "camellia bridge". We are willing to be the information portal for the entire camellia community and with your support and with that of other camellia organizations, we can accomplish all of our goals.
